The Ghost dance is a variation of an ancient traditional Native American dance known as the Circle Dance or Round Dance. Like other Native American dances, it served many spiritual purposes as well as bringing the community together. The Ghost Dance is a circle dance that focussed on embracing the ways of the past and rejecting some of the negative influences of white people in a peaceful way. This included creating a connection to ancestors or the dead and trying to end the mourning of those that have more recently past. A Native American shaman named Wovoka, who was a member of the Paiute Tribe, started the Ghost dance as part of his movement to help Plains Indian Tribes to recover and heal from the many problems and changes they faced in the second half of the 1800's. It quickly spread throughout many Native American tribes.
"The first peace...is that which comes within the souls of men when they realize their [relationship] with the universe and all its Powers...is really everywhere, it is within each of us." (Oglala Lakota) Product SKU: Item : W-1617-SHIRT
