U- 0011-3003-BSK Set of Four Apache, BASKET TABLE PLACE MAT
Based on classic Apache Indian designs. Coiled baskets are made like coiled pottery. Thin strips of fibers, wood, leaves or grass are wrapped into a bundle which is coiled around in a continuous spiral. Six Iota god figures adorn this traditional basket. This one is flat enough to be used as a gorgeous southwestern place mat. It's the perfect thing for the dining room. Let your imagination run. Put your pottery, lamps, bowls, whatever. This is for the true southwest decorator! It is 14" in diameter. Imported. A basket of this quality made by an actual Apache Indian Basket weaver would sell for hundreds, even thousands of dollars. Thankfully, we're able to provide the same style of basket at a mere fraction of the cost.
Baskets were first made at least 9,000 years ago - long before pottery was invented. woven from a variety of plant materials by three basic techniques - plaiting, twining, and coiling - baskets had many uses. Flat trays were used for serving food and for winnowing seeds and parching them with hot coals. Deep baskets covered with resin were made to carry water. Some wee woven very tightly for cooking with hot stones. Others were used for storage or carrying burdens.Product SKU: Item: U-0011-3003-BSK
